Highland, Blackwell girls collect easy wins

Highland and Blackwell rolled up lopsided victories in area girls high school basketball action Tuesday.Highland — ranked No. 18 in Class 1A, Division II in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll — knocked off Hermleigh, 58-33, to improve to 6-1 in District 11-A, Division II and 18-6 overall.Sierra Allen had 21 points to pace the Lady Hornets, while Kara Hughey had 11. Also scoring were Morgan Monroe and Lora Stewart with five points and Beth Richburg, Kaylee Martin, Schyler Kimbrell and Megan Thompson with four.Blackwell, meanwhile, halted its six-game losing streak and improved to 2-6 in District 12-A, Division II (3-14 overall) with an easy 40-16 win over Veribest.Stephanie Metcalf scored 12 points to pace Blackwell while Shelby Alley, Summer Mull and Brooklyn Harris had six points, Reccie Rol-and and Amanda Bullard four and Leo Castelo two.Blackwell’s boys (0-6) lost 38-19 against Veribest. Mason Magness scored eight points, Jordan Fields six and Jayden Jones five for the Hornets. Highland’s boys fell to 2-3 in district play as they lost to Hermleigh, 56-30. Ron Covington paced the Hornets’ effort by scoring 16 points while Ethan Wil-son, Shelby Howard and Brandon Stevens had four and Kevin Box scored two.Roscoe lost both ends of its District 9-A, Division I doubleheader Tuesday as Hamlin’s girls won 50-35 and the Hamlin boys also won in the nightcap, 43-34.Roscoe’s girls (1-2, 11-12) were led by Lynnsi Moses with 11 points while Torrey Willman scored six, Faith Boren and Mirian Solis five, Sara Kingston four, Jacinda Morales three and Stina Tomlin one.Roscoe’s boys fell to 1-2 in District 9-A, Division I play after getting their first win of the season against Rotan on Friday. Jesus Leanos had 14 points to lead the Plow-boys. Dillon Freeman had eight, John Hermosillio six, Luke Rovig four and Cutter Davila two. The Blackwell girls and boys play again Thursday when they travel to Bronte. Highland and Roscoe are back in action on Friday as Highland goes to Roby and Roscoe hosts Stamford.
