Highland boys 3rd after Round 1

AUSTIN — Highland’s first boys golf team in 43 years to go to state is in very good position to claim a medal with one round to play.
The Hornets are currently in third place at the 1A tournament held at Lions Municipal Course after Monday’s first round, which they finished with a 368 total.
Eula (354) and Garden City (362) currently sit 1-2 in the standings. Highland has a 14-shot lead over the fourth-place team, Sterling City (382). New Home and Motley County (386) are tied for fifth entering today’s final round.
Seth Garrett and Sam Spaulding shot 87 to lead Highland and are tied with two other golfers for seventh place in medalist play. The Hornets’ other team members are Ruger Duniven and Konner Turney, who shot 97s and are tied for 35th place, and Ethan Peacock, who shot 101 and is tied for 44th place. Seth Bearden of Crowell (72) is in first place.
Peacock was scheduled to tee off at 9:10 a.m. today followed by Turney at 9:20 a.m., Duniven at 9:30 a.m., Garrett at 9:40 a.m. and Spaulding at 9:50 a.m.
