Highland girls are the lone area winner

Only one Nolan County area varsity basketball team — the 14-3 Highland girls — won Friday. Sierra Allen had 25 points as Highland beat Hamlin 42-38. Hannah Allen had seven, Schyler Kimbrell six, Sydny Helbert four and Madison Moseley two for the Lady Hornets, who were up 34-23 after three periods and held off a big Hamlin rally in the final quarter at Highland.In the other girls games on Friday, Roscoe lost to Forsan 36-23 in non-dis-trict while Blackwell was defeated 70-9 by Garden City in a District 14-A, Div-ision II contest.Roscoe (9-6) got a team-high six points from Faith Boren while Eva Aguayo and Carolina Perez each had four points, Stina Tomlin three and Shelby Brown, Mirian Solis and Torrey Willman two in its loss to visiting Forsan, which was ahead 19-10 at halftime.Blackwell (1-10 overall, 0-2 in district) got four points from Stephanie Met-calf, two from Hailey Ben-nett and Elizabeth Rozzlle and one by Brooklyn Har-ris against Garden City.None of the three Nolan County area boys teams was able to win though Highland’s boys (4-9) came reasonably close, losing to Hamlin 39-29. Ron Coving-ton scored 14, Ethan Wil-son seven, Laramie Thomp-son five and Kaden Nach-linger one for the Hornets, who trailed only 32-27 after three quarters and were down to Hamlin by four (21-17) at halftime.Despite 19 points from Jesus Leanos, Roscoe (3-6) lost to Forsan 58-37. Dillon Freeman chipped in 10 points for Roscoe while Javier Leanos had four and Luke Rovig and Shelton Toliver two.Ethan Andrews had five points while Wade Allen, Franck Cano and Mason Magness had four points apiece and Ted Chambliss, Jayden Jones and Mark Monroe two for Blackwell, which hosted Borden Coun-ty and lost 60-23.Blackwell (2-9 overall) will jump into district play on Tuesday as both teams go to Paint Rock. Blackwell’s teams also see district action on Friday when they enter-tain Sterling City.
