Highland loses district opener; Roscoe falls to Crosbyton 48-6

Highland lost to Ira, 46-0, in its district opener on Friday in a game called at halftime due to the six-man mercy rule, while Roscoe stayed winless this season after losing to first-place Crosbyton 48-6 in a District 7-A contest.Highland was limited to just 78 yards against Ira (8-0), the No. 1-ranked team in Division I Six-Man, and also had four turnovers as the Hornets’ season record dropped to 2-6. Tyler Falcon was the team’s leading rusher with 34 yards on 11 carries, while Michael Hyde had 22 yards on four runs. Ethan Wilson was 3-of-9 passing for 16 yards. Garrett Stewart, Jordan Rowan and Falcon had catches. Falcon also had two tackles and two assists.Crosbyton led 14-0, 21-0 and 41-0 at the quarter breaks to stay in a first-place tie in 7-A, while Roscoe fell to 0-3, 0-8.Crosbyton (3-0, 5-3) is tied with Hamlin for first place in the district.Roscoe rushed for all of its 167 yards. Chris Deleon, who scored Roscoe’s lone touchdown on a 38-yard run, and Eric Padilla had 62 yards rushing and Luke Rovig 31. Roscoe lost four fumbles in the game and its only pass attempt was intercepted. Landon Jones was Roscoe’s top tackler with 14 stops while Padilla had 10, Rovig eight, Devon Freeman seven and Alex Rhodes four. Freeman also had a fumble recovery for the Plowboys.
