Highland, Roscoe track athletes earn region berths

On Monday, Roscoe and Highland High School track athletes were in Abilene and Hermleigh, respectively, to compete in area meets and both schools will be sending a handful of their athletes on to regional competition.
Roscoe’s Riley Sheridan and Kinzie Buchanan made it in two girls events, Sheridan in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs and Buchanan in the shot put and discus.
Sheridan was third in the 3,200 (13:14.71) and fourth in the 1,600 (6:16.57) while Buchanan was second in the shot put (39-6 1/2) and third in the discus (107-10). Roscoe’s third-place boys 800 relay also qualified for regionals with a time of 1:34.20 and its runners will be Caleb Gray, Jathan Coale, Micheal Wright and Junior Martinez.
Highland’s boys qualifiers are Eli Sauer in the 100 dash and Dustin Gray in the 110 hurdles, while its girls qualifiers are Zoe Cornett in the 800 and Maggie Bowen in the 1600. Sauer placed first (11.37) and Cornett second (2:43.09) in their events while Bowen placed fourth (6:47.49) and Gray was also fourth (19.39).
Roscoe’s qualifiers will go to the Region I-2A meet in Odessa on April 27-28 and Highland’s qualifiers will go to the Region II-1A meet at San Angelo, which is also scheduled April 27-28.
