Improved Lady Mustangs to start district at B-Spring

With a 16-13 record, the Sweetwater High School volleyball team already has five more victories than it did all of last season.Now the Lady Mustangs will start to gauge their progress even more as they start district at Big Spring this Friday.Sweetwater hosted Gra-ham on Tuesday and lost in straight sets by scores off 21-25, 24-26, 18-25 in its final pre-district match.Kendra Crosson had eight kills and 10 digs to pace Sweetwater, which was playing at home for only the fourth time this year. Kelsi Crosson, Kathleen Campbell and Taylor McPherson each had three kills, with Kelsi Crosson also getting nine digs and Campbell getting a team-high seven blocks. Kinsey Browning led the team with 12 digs and Allie Zavaleta had 10 digs. Suede Shirley had eight digs and 11 assists and Alicia Finn had seven assists.Sweetwater won twice at Denver City on Saturday, knocking off Lubbock Mon-terey 25-15, 25-12, 25-21 and Denver City 25-15, 15-25, 26-24, 25-18.Juniors and twin sisters Kendra and Kelsi Crosson led the Lady Mustangs with 12 and 10 kills, respectively, against Lubbock Monterey while Finn and Shirley finished the match with 11 and 10 assists, respectively.Finn also had six kills and Campbell and Shirley four, while Browning had eight digs. Browning had 15 digs against Denver City in Saturday’s second match to once again pace Sweetwater, while Kelsi Crosson had 13 kills and 12 digs and Kendra Crosson had six kills and 10 digs. Finn had 12 assists and 10 digs and Shirley had six digs, nine assists and six service aces.
