AUSTIN — Jordan Jones of Blackwell for the second year in a row came close to a state medal after a fourth-place finish Friday in the Class 1A girls pole vault.
Jones — in her second state trip as just a sophomore — cleared 9-0, the same as her fourth-place height at the 2017 meet.
Cherokee’s Lexi Wagner, Garden City’s Payton Hastings and McLean’s Riley Patterson finished 1-2-3 in the event to claim medals.
Two Blackwell boys and one girl competed the final day of the Class 1A state meet on Saturday. The lone girl competitor, Kiley Cummings, was to enter the triple jump, 400 dash and 800 run, with Brandon Brinkman and Hunter Clark in the boys 110 hurdles and Brinkman also scheduled to be in the 300 hurdles.
