Ken M. Pierce

Ken M. Pierce, age 80, died August 21, 2013 at his home in Sweetwater. He was born to Jessie and Mattie Allen Pierce on July 6, 1933 in Altus, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Sweetwater Cemetery with Cody Paty officiating. McCoy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Ken is survived by his wife of almost 55 years Elsie Pierce of Sweetwater, his daughter Lynn Pierce Herm and husband Kevin of Lewisville, Texas and son Wayland Pierce and wife Joan of Big Spring, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nichole Lowry and husband Eric, Tyler Myers and wife Katie, Brinnan Pierce, Berklie Pierce, Brhett Pierce, Toby Herm, Vanessa Herm, Britney Herm Stelzer, Jessica Rodriguez and Julianne Cantu, Blake and Alicin Lowry, his niece Sue Maberry Moseley and nephew Mike Maberry.Ken was preceded in death by his father Jessie Pierce, his parents Buster and Mattie Lambert, a sister Norma Maberry, his nephew Calvin Maberry in 1967 while serving in Vietnam, and by his family of choice Paul Hudgins, L.B. Hudgins, Buster and Ethel Hudgins, and Butch Hudgins.He moved to Sweetwater in 1951 and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving in Korea. Ken retired after 20 years with Frito Lay, Inc. He taught 5th and 6th grade Bible Class for more than 10 years at Lamar Street Church of Christ and was a volunteer for SNAP from 1994 until 1999. He coached Pee Wee and Little League Youth Baseball for 9 years and was a mentor to many boys in the FFA Program by helping them with their show pig projects for 4 years. Ken and Elsie were foster parents to 5 children over a 14 year period.All of his life Ken has enjoyed and found real pleasure doing anything to help young people and hunting and fishing with his family and many friends.God has supplied and provided so many special loving people and happy fulfilling experiences in Ken’s walk through his life, thank you for each one.
