SNYDER — A two-game win streak ended with a 7-2 loss Friday in District 5-4A softball action to Snyder, but Sweetwater is still in second place entering this Friday’s final district game when it will host first-place Big Spring at Jerry Collins Complex.
Sweetwater (4-3) staked itself to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Bri Moriel led off by reaching on an error and Annisa McCollom drew a walk. They both moved up on a passed ball and scored on Jazzy Villa’s two-run double. But that was all for Sweetwater as it was unable to score again, while managing just six hits in the game off Snyder’s starting pitcher, Alyssa Hurt.
Sweetwater led 2-1 after three innings, but Snyder sent 10 players to bat in a six-run fourth inning to take the lead as the Lady Tigers improved to 3-3 in district.
The Lady Mustangs will open the playoffs as the No. 2, 3 or 4 seed. Their loss means Big Spring (6-0) will be the No. 1 seed going into the postseason.
