Lady ‘Stangs get 2 pool wins at tournament

Sweetwater picked up a pair of wins in Friday’s pool play but went 0-3 Saturday in volleyball bracket play at San Angelo’s Nita Vannoy Memorial Tournament.
Sweetwater hosts Bangs on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
In Friday’s pool play, the Lady Mustangs went 2-1 as they defeated Crane 19-25, 25-22, 25-9; lost to Odessa High 20-25, 7-25; and beat Cornerstone 25-12, 25-20 to move into the Silver Division bracket on Saturday.
Sweetwater then lost to Monahans 20-25, 21-25 in Saturday’s quarterfinal match to fall into the consolation bracket, where it lost to Veribest 22-25, 16-25 and then to Ingram in three games by scores of 22-25, 25-21, 23-25.
Hannah Mobley led the Lady Mustangs in Friday’s pool play with five kills vs. Crane, eight kills vs. Odessa High and 12 kills vs. Cornerstone. Shavie Green also had five kills vs. Crane while Kierstyn Thompson had eight kills vs. Cornerstone and Charity Thompson and Keyana Tillis had four kills vs. Crane on Friday.
Mia Valdez had 15 assists vs. Crane and 19 assists vs. Cornerstone. Marissa Villanueva and Bri Moriel had 10 digs vs. Crane and Nikki Gutierrez had 11 digs vs. Cornerstone. In Saturday action, Charity and Kierstyn Thompson had five kills vs. Monahans while Green had six kills against Veribest. Kierstyn Thompson had 12 kills, Charity Thompson 11 and Green 10 vs. Ingram, while Valdez had 37 assists and Moriel had 17 digs.
