Lady ‘Stangs go 4-2 at their tourney

Sweetwater High School’s softball team will take a 6-2 record into today’s game at San Angelo Lake View after a third-place finish this past weekend at its tournament.Sweetwater went 4-2 at the three-day event held at Jerry Collins Complex, scoring 68 runs in its six games. The Lady Mustangs opened the tournament by beating Merkel 24-2 and losing to Lamesa 9-0 on Thursday, defeated Winters 12-1 and Lubbock Estacado 15-3 on Friday and finished up the tournament on Saturday with a 14-3 win over Anson and an 8-3 loss to Stamford.Top hitters in Thursday’s win over Merkel were Mad-die Berry with a double, single and four RBI; Cierra Knox with two hits and four RBI; Megan Holsey with two hits and two RBI; Rebecca Gonzales with two hits and two RBI; Naomi Gonzales with one hit and two RBI; and Morgan Gomez and Abby Garcia with one hit and one RBI.Against Winters, Savanna Hall had two doubles and three RBI; Holsey had one double and two RBI; Nao-mi Gonzales had one double and one RBI; and Berry had a single and one RBI. Knox and Garcia also hit safely and Kat Montoya and Lena Lovelady also had RBIs.Against Estacado, Holsey had two hits and one RBI; Naomi Gonzales had one hit and two RBI; Hall, Garcia and Shaneese Brown had one hit and one RBI; and Knox and Lovelady also had one RBI. Against Anson, Garcia and Knox each had three hits and three RBI with Knox getting a double; Holsey had three hits and two RBI; Hall had two hits, including a double, and three RBI; and Berry had one hit and one RBI. Lovelady, Naomi Gonzales and Lauren Jones also had hits and Gomez had an RBI. Garcia had three hits, inclu-ding two doubles, and two RBI vs. Stamford while Ber-ry, Knox, Hall and Holsey also hit safely.
