The Blackwell girls are still batting 1.000, but not in baseball or softball.
The Lady Hornets on Tuesday won their sixth team title in their six track meets this season.
If they win their next two, they’ll bring home Class 1A regional and state championship trophies.
At Sterling City, the Lady Hornets’ talented stable of athletes claimed the District 11-1A/12-1A area meet title with 145 points, which was 42 better than second-place Water Valley.
That could give them a real shot at adding the regional title to their collection. The Region II-1A meet is Friday and Saturday at Angelo State University’s LeGrand Stadium.
How good are the Lady Hornets? All eight of their area qualifiers advanced to regional competition — all in at least two events — with top-four finishes.
Kiley Cummings won two individual events, the 400 dash (59.67) and triple jump (35-0 1/2), and was the anchor leg on the first-place mile relay that had a time of 4:23.88. She was second in the 200 (27.67) and long jump (15-1 1/2).
Vickie Davis, Cirstyn Gober and Madison Solis were also on the first-place mile relay. Davis also got a first-place medal in the 800 with a time of 2:28.65 and she was the anchor leg on the second-place 800 relay (1:53.05) which also included Gober, Solis and Carli Powers.
Darrian Kenney will go in four events, taking second in the 100 hurdles (16.87) and high jump (5-0), third in the triple jump (32-3 1/2) and anchoring the third-place 400 relay (54.08) that also included Solis, Powers and Jordan Jones.
Jones also tied for second in the pole vault (9-0) and Gober was third in the 300 hurdles (52.98), while Caitlin Lange qualified by placing third in the 100 hurdles (17.91) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (53.18).
The Lady Hornets’ other points came from Jones, who placed fifth in the 100 dash (14.15); Kenney, who was fifth in the 300 hurdles (53.70); and Lange, fifth in the long jump (14-7).
Blackwell has now won a pair of meets this year at both Blackwell and Sterling City, with its other meet wins coming at Robert Lee and Water Valley.
