Local church offers Bible reading program

Never found time to read the Bible? First Presbyterian Church (FPC) of Sweetwater is starting an all-ages program to Read the Bible in 90 Days. Pastor Kary Fry wants to promote Bible literacy and says, "A whole generation of us were raised on Bible themes, where the Bible was used only as reference." While many people may feel that they're not "smart" enough or don't have the background to attend Sunday school, this program will be for beginners, and literally get everyone on the same page. The program is open to all. This program is for all ages: younger children will be exposed to the same stories that the adults are reading. Not only will this program promote Bible literacy, it allows the whole family to experience the Bible.Pastor Fry believes strongly in keeping the family together, and says that "families can share and talk about these stories together." Pastor Fry and her husband Mike Fry, newcomers to Sweetwater but long-time West Texas residents, will both be teaching the class. Other Presbyterian elders and teachers will also assist in teaching classes from age "3 to 100."The classes start on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at the church, and there is a registration and signup. Call the church at 235-5491 to sign up. There is a fee for adults (and a reduced one for middle school and high school students), but younger kids are free. Course material includes an NIV Bible and notes.
