Local Girl Scouts collecting yogurt lids for breast cancer

The local Girl Scouts are collecting pink Yoplait yogurt lids for the Susan G. Komen foundation for the cure for breast cancer. The Save Your Lids 2012 Challenge is a service opportunity through the Girl Scouts of Texas-Oklahoma Plains. In 1912, Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scout movement. In 1927, she died of breast cancer. To honor her memory and in celebration of the 100th birthday of Girl Scouts, GS-TOP challenges each Service Unit to collect 1,912 pink Yoplait lids. For each lid that is donated, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to the Susan G. Komen foundation. Look on packages of Yoplait Original, Light, Thick and Creamy, Light, Thick and Creamy, Whips!, and Yoplait Smoothies. Wash the lids and bring or send them to your local Girl Scout office. Include your name, your Troop number and Service Unit name/number.This opportunity is open to adults of all ages. The project started on Saturday, Oct. 1 and will run through Wednesday, December 14. Donation drop off jars are located at SNAP and at the County-City Library, or at the regional Girl Scout office. For more information, call Judy at 236-6062 or visit http://www.yoplait.com.
