Miles, Quanah kick off 9th annual Classic on Saturday

A pair of first-time parti-cipants, Miles and Quanah, will begin the ninth annual Sammy Baugh Classic with an 11 a.m. kickoff Saturday at Mustang Bowl.With a new sponsor this year, the event will be known as the 2013 Shale Show Sammy Baugh Classic and will have three games spread out over two week-ends. On Friday, Sept. 13, play resumes as Sweetwa-ter faces Breckenridge in its home opener at 7:30 p.m.The Classic will then end its run on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Bowl with two more first-time participants, Booker and Brock, playing the finale at 6 p.m. The Bowl will be hosting games on three straight Saturdays. Everman and El Paso Del Valle met Aug. 31 after playing in last year’s Classic, with Everman win-ning this year’s game 16-15.SHS tennis resultsSweetwater High School beat Lake View 14-5 in its opening fall tennis match Tuesday. In boys doubles action, Bryan Vause and Zac Bax won 8-3; Keygan Valdez and Billy Reeves lost 3-8; and Stacey-Mark Butler won 8-2. Varsity runner Ale-jandra Solis placed 13th in 14:08, while Alyssa Chavez was 10th for the JV girls in 16:46. Ashely Maestas was fifth and Bonnie Wilkinson placed sixth individually for the seventh grade girls, who were second as a team.Roscoe competes next at Hamlin’s meet Sept. 14.
