Movie night, sermon series at 4th & Elm to focus on marriage

The joys and challenges of marriage can take a couple through the highs, lows, and everywhere in between, but one local church is unveiling two events in order to help husbands and wives in their relationship. 4th and Elm Church of Christ in Sweetwater is hosting a free movie night on Saturday, April 13. Starting at 6:30 p.m. in the church's Warehouse, the 2008 inspirational film "Fireproof" will be shown."Fireproof" stars Kirk Cameron--who became a household name from his "Growing Pains" fame--as Caleb, the captain of a fire department who is committed to saving lives and his partners. But at home, his marriage is anything but hot.And after several years, his wife Catherine wonders how "happily ever after" grew to a cold marriage. Their work, finances and other pressures lead to continual arguments, but more toward the idea of divorce.Caleb's father, however, hopes for something more for his son, challenging him to salvage the marriage through an experiment of sorts. But what Caleb learns and endures brings him through different ups and downs, as he attempts to make the greatest rescue of his life: the love of his wife. The movie, however, is a lead-in to the church's marriage series which will kick off a month later. On Sunday, May 12, the "Fireproof Your Marriage" series will begin during the church's 10:30 a.m. service. For six Sunday mornings, the sermons will tackle different aspects of marriage while understanding God's plan for a lifelong partnership. Mike Crowley, the pastor of 4th and Elm, stated that marriage is the foundation of the family. If a person has a strong bond with their spouse, then the pressures of marriage and life can be handled and tackled together.By establishing a marriage in a mutual faith in God, the relationships between a husband, wife and their children can strengthen. Crowley noted that the series will offer encouragement and ideas in a safe setting so that spouses can be challenged to grow and family relationships can thrive.Everyone is invited to the free movie night and to take part in the "Fireproof Your Marriage" sermon series.
