The wait ends for Garrett Muncy at 8:50 a.m. Monday when the Highland senior tees off at the Class 1A boys golf tournament.
And when Muncy — a three-time regional golf qualifier — begins his first of two 18-hole rounds at Austin’s Lions Municipal Golf Course, he will be the first Highland golfer in 41 years to play at the state tournament. The Hornets sent a boys team, which in-cluded Muncy’s great uncle Carey Scott, to the state tournament in 1976.
This year Highland had just three boys who played the sport, which left them one short of a team. So Muncy, who qualified at the Quicksand Golf Course in San Angelo with rounds of 91 and 85 for a 176 total, is representing Highland this week as a boys medalist.
