Mustangs control fate at B’wood

Sweetwater made it to the boys playoffs without even having to suit up, or step on a basketball court, this past Friday due to Snyder’s 51-47 overtime win that night over Big Spring while Sweetwater had the night off. But the Mustangs control their fate when they go to Brownwood tonight for a 7:30 p.m. contest to end the regular season.
With a 3-4 district record, Sweetwater trails second-place Brownwood (4-3) by a game in the current District 5-4A standings.
A win over Brownwood would give Sweetwater the No. 2 playoff spot — even though the teams would both be 4-4 — by virtue of two wins over the Lions.
Sweetwater won the first meeting 41-35 on Jan. 26 in Sweetwater.
But if Brownwood wins, Sweetwater and Snyder will be 3-5 and tied for No. 3 in the district, requiring either a tiebreaker or coin flip to decide playoff seeding since the teams split their two district meetings, with both winning at home.
Sweetwater lost to Class 1A Happy, 48-31, on Saturday in a non-district game played at New Home.
Kobe Clark led Sweetwater with eight points. Also scoring were J.L. Solis and Ky Hoover with six, Tristan Morrow with three and Jackson Foster, Logan Wedin, Jaden Hernandez and Darian Carr with two.
