SNYDER — In a battle of teams trying to stay in District 5-4A playoff contention, Sweetwater forced Snyder to play three extra innings on Friday before the Tigers finally won 3-2 on a triple and RBI single in the bottom of the 10th.
Sweetwater, which fell to 1-4 in district, was trailing 2-0 until the fifth when it took advantage of two Snyder miscues to tie it at 2-2. With two outs, Sweetwater cut it to 2-1 when Seth Garcia, who had walked, was balked to second and then scored on a single by Leo Holsey plus an infield error, and Holsey scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-2.
But Snyder (3-2) would get the last laugh. Cameron Smith ripped a triple to lead off the 10th and scored the winning run on Jake Chavez’s RBI single.
Despite the loss there were bright spots for the Mustangs, who received an outstanding effort from their starting pitcher Krystian Gomez — 7.1 innings giving up just two runs, none earned, and five hits.
