Operation Christmas Child Packing Party to begin taking donations

Staff Writer

It’s that time of year again and it’s beginning to look a lot like Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child is a ministry of Franklin Graham and Samaritan’s Purse. The ministry is getting ready to start their Fourth annual packing party at the Avondale Baptist Church.
Paint and Munch Sweetwater will be hosting a painting party on October 7th at 2pm at Avondale Baptist Church in Sweetwater. All proceeds will benefit Operation Christmas Child packing party. There will be a fee. This will include all supplies for finished project, and snacks. Class size is limited to 20 painters. Reserve your spot by contacting Lesa Burrow Burt at 325-338-8426. No painting experience is required. Painting project will be a Fall theme. There will be a fee but all proceeds will go towards buying children the basic necessities.
The Operation consists of a group of many friends and family members, including people from Avondale Baptist Church who have a desire to help children around the world. Many of these children lack the basic necessities of life that everyone takes for granted. The people behind Operation Christmas Child are hoping to fill 300 (150 for girls and 150 for boys) shoe boxes for children around the world this year.
The operation is targeting the ages of 10 to 14. However, if those who would like to donate find items on clearance racks, they are asked to please not hesitate in purchasing these items regardless of size.
The Operation has compiled a list of items that they would like to put in the boxes. If anyone would like to help, they may donate one or many items, fill a shoe box, give a monetary donation or come and help the Avondale Church volunteers pack the shoe boxes on November 11th. One can do all four things, if they prefer.
