Potential roads discussed at county meeting

During Monday's meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners, a presentation was made by Kaleb Brewer with Carter Surveying and Mapping regarding county roads within an industrial park. The park is located six and a half miles east of Sweetwater toward Interstate 20, near County Road 220. These initial steps are the first phase of a larger subdivision for the industrial park.Due to maintenance, the road length would be shorter, although they would be extended as the lots are sold, up to two and a half miles. The roads would possibly be fashioned like a cul-de-sac as well, and gravel would be used for the roads due to truck traffic. The first phase would run about 12 to 18 month. When asked by the commissioners, Brewer noted that interest has been seen in the lots, including businesses such as a chemical blend company, machine shops and a rental business. As for the location of the park, Brewer has come to learn that it is easier to retain employees near the living area. With this sites, employees could opt to live in either Sweetwater or even Abilene. While the agenda item stated that the commissioners would consider the "adoption of county roads," county attorney Lisa Peterson stated that the action item needed to be adjusted, as the plat should be accepted before the roads are adopted. Had action been taken, the county would have been adopting the roads in their current condition.Additionally, the commissioners wanted to obtain references on the company before taking any kind of action. Thus, the item was withdrawn and will be amended for the consideration of accepting the plat, which will take place at the special-called meeting on Monday, July 29.
