Roscoe rolls to win over Plains

ROSCOE — Ahead by just a single touchdown at the end of the first quarter, Roscoe used a 22-point second quarter as a springboard Friday to a big 42-7 win over Plains, as the Plowboys improved to 2-0 in District 4-2A, D-II play.
Roscoe led 14-7 until pulling away from Plains (0-2) to stay in a first-place tie with Hamlin, which beat Seagraves (1-1) in its game Friday. Roscoe travels to Seagraves this week.
Friday’s Roscoe-Plains game saw the Plowboys’ offense rack up 523 yards on 61 snaps — an average of 8.6 yards per play.
Roscoe quarterback Jayden Gonzales was 14-of-29 for 282 yards and two long touchdowns — a 52-yarder to Micheal Wright and an 88-yarder to Brandon Lavalais. His backup, Barrett Beal, was 1-for-1 for 18 yards, giving Roscoe 300 in all against Plains.
Running back Francisco Garcia, meanwhile, had 173 yards and three TDs to pace the rushing game, scoring on runs of 13, 49 and 17 yards. His second TD came after Plains took a 7-6 lead in the first quarter on a 34-yard run and PAT kick.
Jose Ortega scored for Roscoe on a 15-yard run in the second quarter to make it 20-7, then 22-7 after a two-point run by Clemente Aguayo. Less than two minutes later, Gonzales hit Wright for a 52-yard score.
The 22-0 run in the second quarter ended with a 17-yard TD run by Garcia and second PAT kick by Ortega.
Lavalais had five catches for 175 yards to lead the Plowboys’ receivers. Ortega also caught five balls, good for 64 yards, and he was Roscoe’s No. 2 rusher with 36 yards on three attempts.
Plains was just 2-of-11 passing for 18 yards, with a pair of interceptions — one each by Ortega and Diego Garza. Garza, Aguayo and Paul Pantoja had five solo tackles and Ortega, Tait Fullwood and Jacob Rainey four. Ortega and Fullwood also had three assisted tackles and Tristan Brooks and Parker Payne two apiece.
