SHS fall athletes are honored at banquet Thursday at Annex

Sweetwater High School athletes in the fall sports of cross country, volleyball and football, as well as the SHS cheerleaders and student athletic trainers, were recognized Thursday at a banquet held at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex.
Coaches presented certificates to all of their athletes and a number of them who received academic and postseason (all-district, all-region and all-state) awards in their sports were also recognized at the event.
The SHS football coaches also presented some special awards Thursday.
Justin Castereno was given the offensive lineman award by coaches Blake Spears and Craig Jackson; Logan King was given the defensive lineman award by coaches Mario Heredia and Roland Herrera; Tyler Warner was given the offensive skill player award by coaches Tanner Crain and Jarrod Gee; Markus Meneses was given the defensive skill player award by coaches Kirk Byrd and Jason Brock; Leo Holsey was given the offensive MVP award by coaches Ben McGehee and Blake Spears; Alex Gallegos was given the defensive MVP award by coaches Mario Heredia and Kirk Byrd; Tony Padilla was given the Fighting Heart award by McGehee; and Josh Camacho was given the Mustang Coach’s Award, also by McGehee.
A meal was served to all in attendance by the Mustang Moms and Sweetwater Booster Club, and a number of special guests were recognized by McGehee for their contributions to SHS fall athletics.
A football highlight video of the 2018 season was also shown at the banquet and Meneses, one of the team’s seniors, presented a challenge to his fellow players.
