The Mustangs, just the No. 2 seed in District 2-4A, D-II, ran off five straight playoff victories before losing to West Orange-Stark in the finals, 24-6 — the last game as coach for Mobley, who compiled a 46-16 record at Sweetwater. The title game was played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington — the Dallas Cowboys’ home. Sweetwater took a 6-0 lead on Luke James’ stunning 96-yard fumble return after West Orange-Stark had driven to Sweetwater’s 1-yard line, but the ‘other’ Mustangs ran off 24 straight points after that.
2. Mobley resigned in January to become football coach and AD at Sealy High School.
