State-ranked Wylie teams visit Sweetwater

Wylie will visit Mustang Gym this evening to take on Sweetwater with the girls game at 6:15 p.m., followed by the boys contest that will start around 7:30 p.m.
Wylie’s girls (3-0 in district) are ranked No. 12 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll, just ahead of No. 13 Brownwood and Snyder. The Lady Tigers, who on Tuesday won 72-53 over Sweetwater, and Brownwood are 2-1, while Sweetwater is 1-2 and Big Spring is 0-4. Snyder plays at Brownwood tonight.
The Wylie boys (1-0 in district) are currently tied with Brownwood for the lead. Sweetwater and Snyder are 1-1 after Tuesday’s game at Snyder that Snyder won 64-36, and Big Spring is 0-2 after its 72-48 defeat to Brownwood.
Wylie’s boys, 21-3 for the season, are ranked No. 8 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll that was released on Monday.
In Class 1A, Blackwell’s teams are off after winning their games at Sterling City on Tuesday. The Blackwell girls are 5-2 in district and the boys are 2-4 in 14-1A. The girls are in third place, trailing Garden City (7-0), the district leader, by two games. Blackwell’s boys are now a half-game up on Sterling City and in fifth place.
Both teams host Water Valley on Tuesday in their next games. The boys’ other win was at Robert Lee back on Jan. 5.
In District 8-2A, Roscoe is at Anson while Highland’s boys host Loraine in 12-1A. The Highland girls are idle since Loraine does not have a girls basketball team.
Roscoe’s girls are 1-6 in district play, while the Roscoe boys are 1-4 in district. Highland’s boys are 0-2 and the girls are 0-4 in 12-1A.
