The Sweetwater Fire Department responded to a structure fire at around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday on the 500 block of Locust, the location of Sweet Dreams Aviary and Exotics in Sweetwater.
Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden stated, "The fire began when an animal got loose and knocked over a heater in the building." Madden also stated that the fire created a hole about six feet deep in the floor.
Several animals were injured and killed in the blaze, but Madden states that many were also saved. "The guys did a great job in ventilating and extinguishing the fire very quickly," he stated.
