SW girls, Highland teams win

The Sweetwater girls won their Nolan County matchup against Roscoe on Friday and Highland’s two teams stayed unblemished this season by knocking off separate schools in their non-district doubleheader.Sweetwater girls 43, Roscoe girls 33:Roscoe was ahead 21-17 at halftime and 31-28 after three periods before visiting Sweetwater used a 15-2 fourth-quarter tear to pull out the win. Shaneese Brown scored 13 points for the Lady Mustangs (4-4). Cierra Knox had eight, Kayla Chowning seven, Maddie Jones and Taylor McPherson five, Hayley Brownlow four and Abby McPherson one. Eva Aguayo led Roscoe (6-5) with 15 points while Sun-shine Saddler had six, Sel-ena Perez four and Shelby Brown, Mia Herrera, Sam-antha Ortega and Whitney Williams two apiece.Highland girls 54, Hamlin girls 29:Highland’s girls led 13-7, 25-13 and 43-21 at the quarter breaks as the Lady Hornets improved to 10-0 this season.Sierra Allen led Highland with 17 points while Madi-son Moseley had 10, Schyler Kimbrell eight, Hannah Allen seven, Sydny Helbert four, Beth Richburg and Kaylee Martin three and Morgan Monroe two.Highland — the top-ranked girls team all season in Class 1A, Division II by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches — has won its 10 games by an average of 18 points.Highland boys 40, Mid. High-land, which improved to 5-0, was led by Ethan Wil-son’s nine points. Kevin Box had seven, Jacob Richburg and Isaac Rios six, Brandon Stevens and Michael Hyde five and Seth Wood two.Garden City girls 71, Blackwell girls 9:Garden City, ranked No. 6 in Class 1A, Division II this season by the TABC, dominated Blackwell in a District 14-1A contest as the Lady Hornets fell to 3-3, 1-1. Garden City is 11-1, 2-0.Blackwell scored just two points after the first quarter against the Lady Kats, and was held scoreless in the middle two periods. Halee Sanderson led Blackwell with four points while Crys-tal Chavez and Stephanie Metcalf had two points and Brooklyn Harris one. Black-well defeated Veribest 37-22 in its district opener.
