Sweetwater's state 7-on-7 bid falls short at Brownwood

BROWNWOOD — There will be no trip this year to College Station to compete in the 7-on-7 Division II State Tournament for Sweetwater after qualifying for it each of the past four summers.
Sweetwater compiled a 1-2 record on Friday in a final state qualifying tournament for the Mustangs that was held at Brownwood High School. Sweetwater competed in a four-team pool with Brownwood, Ballinger and McGregor.
After starting out with a 49-0 loss to Brownwood, which had already clinched a state berth, Sweetwater was much more competitive its last two games, losing to McGregor 42-35 and beating Ballinger 26-19. Sweetwater’s team of 7-on-7 players included Seth Garcia, Tyler Warner, Markus Meneses, Eli Hendrix, Daiman Atkins, Elijah Kent, Ayden Rosas, Leo Holsey, Eric Martinez, Josh Camacho, Andres Neri, Darian Carr, Jordan Sims, Blake Scott, Aaron Aguilar, Ryan Romero, Kade Needham, Reese Palafox, Harrison Foster and Tony Padilla.
