C. Barrett Thomas, Assistant District Attorney for the 32ndJudicial District Attorney’s Office, was elected to the Executive Council of the Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) this week. Thomas has served on the TYLA’s Board of Directors since 2011, but he will now assume the role of treasurer for the upcoming year. Thomas will continue to work as a felony criminal prosecutor under the direction of District Attorney, Ann Reed, where he has served since September of 2011. Thomas also manages a family law practice, The Thomas Firm, which has been based in Sweetwater since he joined Ms. Reed’s staff. Since its inception as the Junior Bar of Texas in 1930, TYLA has generally been considered the public service arm of the State Bar of Texas. It is comprised of approximately 26,000 lawyers who are either under 36-years-old or have practiced less than five years. In addition to being the voice of young lawyers to both the State Bar of Texas and the legislature, TYLA has created and distributed thousands of educational and public service projects. Some of the recent projects have included providing free legal services to indigent clients, offering free continuing education to law enforcement personnel, teaching children the dangers of underage drinking and lobbying for new legislation to address the growing issue of human trafficking in the United States. For more information on TYLA, its current projects, or how you can bring their projects to your work or school free of charge, please visit or contact Barrett Thomas.
