Sweetwater ISD athletic director Ben McGehee has announced the recent hiring of two new girls head coaches at the high school.
Mitzi Bell has been hired as Sweetwater’s new head volleyball and girls track coach beginning with the new school year. Bell is replacing Morgan Doyle, who has accepted a coaching job in the Brenham ISD.
Also, Kasey Teich will be the new girls head basketball and assistant cross country coach following the resignation of Sarah Johnson earlier this year.
Bell has coached for 22 years in the high school and college ranks and is very familiar with the West Texas area, coaching in Big Spring and Colorado City most recently as well as in Coahoma and the Odessa-Midland area. She is also familiar with Sweetwater’s volleyball district that includes Big Spring.
One of her goals is to make her athletes better people, not just better players. “I think they need consistency and structure and also to have fun,” she said.
Doyle has seen both sides in Sweetwater, as a star athlete and then a coach the past three years, the last two as head volleyball and girls track coach. “I’ve been very blessed to start my coaching career in Sweetwater,” she said. “I have been supported by everyone here and I hope that I have made as much of a positive impact on my athletes’ lives as they have had on mine.”
Teich began coaching last year at The Woodlands College Park High School in Conroe in basketball and tennis. “I am coming here not to win but to create a winning tradition,” she said. “Winning in life and on the court are huge things. Failure is not an option.”
