According to the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect of a $10.8 million drug bust on I-20 has been identified. The suspect is David Fernandez Garcia ,26, of Andrews, TX. Fernandez was stopped at the 220 mile marker, east bound on I-20 in Mitchell County on Monday afternoon, July 10th. As of right now, we do not know the cause of Fernandez being stopped but Sweetwater K-9 officers were called to the scene to assist Mitchell County officials. Responders seized approximately 125 pounds of suspected liquid methamphetamine. Garcia is being charged with possession of a controlled substance, a 1st degree felony, at this time.
Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda said the liquid meth is worth an estimated $10.8 million. Frieda did not know why the vehicle was searched, or where the meth was headed because it’s a Mitchell County case.
