On Tuesday, September 11, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. (CST), employees from more than 15 USG plants throughout the country, along with staff in the Chicago Corporate Office, walked in remembrance of 9/11. This company-wide remembrance walk was organized by one of USG’s Employee Resource Groups, Defend the Rock, which is dedicated to raising awareness for Military service members and building relationships among current and former Military service members at various USG locations. A team of USG military veterans worked together to plan and implement the successful event.
The USG Sweetwater plant shut down for two hours to distribute remembrance T-shirts and flags, take group photos with the Sweetwater Fire Department and Chief Grant Madden, and walk to the new crusher to climb flights of stairs in remembrance of the first responders and rescue workers. Grant Madden, Sweetwater Fire Chief, shared thoughts of 9-11-01 and lead the moment of silence at 9:59 a.m. followed by a balloon release. Many community leaders were also on hand to join USG Sweetwater in the walk.
