The offense has flatlined in district play for Sweetwater’s baseball team over the past two games, and resulted in a 7-0 loss to Wylie on Friday at Sportsman’s Park.
Sweetwater, which fell to 1-2 in district, has gone 12 innings without a run dating to the second inning of a 9-3 loss at Snyder on March 23. There were just two hits against Wylie on Friday.
Isak Alvarez led off with a single for the Mustangs in the first inning.
But the only other hit was a seventh-inning double by Mason Maxwell. And the only two other baserunners were Alvarez and Kiante McCoy, who were both hit by pitches when Sweetwater trailed just 3-0 in the sixth and had the tying run at the plate. But the Mustangs couldn’t solve Wylie pitcher Jaxon Hansen, who struck out eight and walked none.
Maxwell also pitched a strong game for Sweetwater, striking out 11 in 6.1 innings, while allowing eight hits with just two walks, but he was charged with the loss.
The game was scoreless until Wylie (3-0) took control by scoring three runs in the fourth inning.
A pair of Sweetwater errors and a two-run single scored four more runs in the seventh. Sweetwater will return to action Tuesday to host Brownwood (2-1).
