A fiery crash has taken the lives of 9 people 9 miles outside of Andrews.
DPS reports that a head-on collision occurred when the University of the Southwest van carrying nine passengers was struck by a pickup truck that crossed the center line of a two lane road in Andrews County. The van was carrying both men’s and women’s golf teams. Six students were killed in the impact. The coach for the university, Tyler James was driving at the time and was also killed. Both passengers in the pickup truck died as a result of the accident.
University President Quint Thurman said that only two students survived the crash and were airlifited to a hospital in Lubbock.
There is no word on their condition or what caused the accident.
