Mustangs lose to Westerners

LUBBOCK — Lubbock High defeated Sweetwater, 72-59, on Tuesday in non-district boys basketball action. It was the Westerners’ second win over the Mustangs in less than a week and third this season.
Sweetwater (5-14) lost despite getting a game-high 25 points from Kobe Clark. The Mustangs, who will entertain Monahans on Friday, trailed only 14-12 after one quarter but were down 32-20 at halftime and 47-36 after three periods. Ky Hoover had 17 points and Kiante McCoy nine.
The Sweetwater girls cancelled their home games on Tuesday with Ira due to bad weather conditions.
Roscoe teams lose district doubleheader
Roscoe lost its District 8-2A doubleheader at Albany on Tuesday. The boys lost to Albany 62-44 in their opener and the girls fell to Albany 40-29. Brandon Lavalais paced the boys with eight points and Veronica Cuellar had 10 points to lead the Roscoe girls.
Area teams cancel due to weather
The first basketball games of 2018 will have to wait a few days more after four area teams called off Tuesday’s scheduled basketball games due to the bad weather.
The Highland girls and boys and Blackwell girls and boys all decided to call off their games. Highland was scheduled to host Rotan while Blackwell was to host Veribest. Blackwell and Veribest have rescheduled their games for Wednesday in Blackwell.
