The Highland girls and Blackwell boys were the only area basketball teams to win last weekend.

The Sweetwater boys basketball team opened district play with a loss at Lubbock Estacado, while the girls basketball team also lost its district home contest to the Estacado girls.

Several members of the 2020 district champion Sweetwater High School football team received special honors at an assembly held Monday at the SHS auditorium.

In Tuesday's area high school basketball action, the Roscoe girls lost a district opening basketball game to Coleman and the Highland girls and Blackwell boys also lost, while the Highland boys won a squeaker on the road at Bronte.

The Sweetwater High School boys basketball team was defeated 66-46 by Class 6A Midland Lee at the SHS gym Friday but the SHS girls won 52-42 against Class 4A Fort Stockton at the middle school gym.

Paris Houston, a junior at Sweetwater High School, has been selected to play for the Class 1A-4A Blue team at a Texas Girls Coaches Association all-star volleyball game July 7 in Arlington.
