Roscoe's Michael Fulton and Sweetwater's Eric Martinez won top-5 medals in Abilene at their state meets that were held by the Texas High School Powerlifting Association.

Fulton was fourth at the Division 4 meet held Friday in his 165-pound weight class with a total lift of 1,240 pounds, while Martinez was fifth on Saturday at the Division 2 meet with a total lift of 1,270 pounds in the 148-pound class.

Highland's Kreed Turney set a new state bench press record of 405 pounds in the 220-pound weight class at the Division 4 meet and was seventh overall.

Also competing for Highland were Gage Balthrop in the superheavyweight class, Tristen Harding in the 181-pound class and Nate Bennett in the 242-pound class, while Roscoe's other state competitors were Peyton Friedman in the 242-pound class and Xander Moffett in the 123-pound class.

Roscoe's Zoey Welch competed in the 97-pound class on March 16 at her state meet held in Corpus Christi and was seventh.
